How does my garden grow? With gifts! Part II

In addition to sweet neighbors, the garden continues to grow with gifts paid forward by the people who lived here before. Each spring, the colors come onto the stage one by one: the wide-awake lavender rhododendrons, the crisp geometric beauty of the white mountain laurel, followed by sprays of purple salvia. Then a bright chorus of pink roses, and the most fragrant of all: the pale orange rose. Now the yarrow is turning yellow and I know later in the summer there will be gorgeous tall white flowers, although I don't know their names. And long after the others have colored, the sedum will wear a stately maroon crown well into the fall. I would probably never have planted or even known about many of these things and yet I enjoy them thanks to the generosity of those who came before.
